Hearing Loss Prevention & Custom Ear Protection

Preventing hearing damage before it starts is the best way to safeguard your long-term communication and ear health. Excessive noise exposure is the leading cause of preventable hearing loss and tinnitus in adults.

At Hearing Aid Specialists Sth East Qld, we provide custom-moulded ear protection tailored specifically to your ear anatomy, work environment, and hobbies.

How Loud Is Too Loud?

Sound intensity is measured in decibels (dB). Prolonged exposure to noise levels above 85 dB can cause irreversible damage to the delicate hair cells in your inner ear.

  • 85 dB: Heavy traffic, lawnmowers (Safe up to 8 hours)
  • 95 dB: Power tools, motorcycles (Safe up to 45 minutes without protection)
  • 100+ dB: Chainsaws, industrial machinery, loud music concerts (Damage can occur in under 15 minutes)
  • 120+ dB: Sirens, firearms, jet engines (Immediate risk of acoustic trauma)

Custom-Moulded vs. Generic Earplugs

While foam or silicone earplugs offer basic protection, custom-moulded earplugs provide superior acoustic isolation, unmatched long-term comfort, and reliable protection that won't fall out or loosen during movement.

Benefits of Custom Earplugs:

  • Perfect Anatomical Fit: Crafted from precision impressions taken directly from your ear canals by our audiometrists.
  • Flat-Attenuation Acoustic Filters: Reduces harmful volume levels evenly across frequencies without muffling speech or music quality.
  • Durable & Cost-Effective: Made from high-grade medical silicone designed to last for years.

Tailored Protection for Every Lifestyle

  • Industrial & Worksite Protection: High-attenuation plugs designed for trades, manufacturing, construction, and agricultural noise compliance.
  • Musician & Performance Plugs: Specialized acoustic filters that lower sound volume while preserving natural tone clarity and music balance.
  • Custom Shooting & Hunting Plugs: Instant-deflecting filters that protect against impulse gunshots while allowing low-volume speech to pass through.
  • Custom Sleep & Swimming Plugs: Soft silicone sleep plugs for shift workers and waterproof plugs for adults and children prone to ear infections.
